The basics
What exactly is Boxtrot?
Boxtrot rents reusable moving crates in Charleston, SC. Instead of buying a stack of cardboard boxes, you rent sturdy, stackable totes for your move. We deliver them clean to your door, you pack and move at your own pace, and when you’re settled in we come back and pick up the empties. No boxes to buy, no tape, no breakdown, nothing to throw away.
How does renting moving crates actually work?
Four easy steps: (1) Reserve a package online or by text. (2) We deliver the crates to your door before moving day. (3) You pack, move, and unpack on your schedule — you keep them for a full week. (4) We swing back and collect the empty crates. That’s it — you never touch a cardboard box or make a single supply run.
Why rent crates instead of just buying boxes?
Cardboard is a second job: hunting for boxes, buying tape, taping them together, then breaking them all down and hauling the pile to the curb. Boxtrot skips all of it. Our crates show up ready to pack, snap shut without tape, stack neatly, and disappear when you’re done. It’s simply the most convenient way to move.
Are the crates really sturdier than cardboard?
Yes. The crates have hard walls that don’t bow, blow out, or buckle, so your dishes, books, and electronics are far safer than in a flimsy box. They stack 4–5 high without crushing, and the lids snap shut so nothing spills in transit.
Packages & what’s included
Which package do I need?
It’s sized by home: Kit (10 crates) for a studio or 1BR, Trot (20) for a 2BR, Fox (30) for a 3BR — our most popular — Vixen (50) for a 4BR, and Den (custom) for 5BR+ or large estates. Not sure? Tell us about your move and we’ll point you to the right fit.
Can I adjust a package — get more or fewer crates?
Absolutely. Every pack flexes. Need a few extra crates, a few less, a longer rental, or a custom mix? Just say the word and we’ll tailor it to your move, not the other way around.
What comes with the crates?
Each crate has an attached, snap-shut lid — no tape required. Want to make moving day even easier? You can add a utility dolly, a TV box, and a few other handy extras when you book.
How long do I get the crates for?
Every package includes a full 7-day rental — plenty of time to pack, move, and unpack without rushing.
What if I need them longer than a week?
No problem. Extra weeks are just half the base package price — no surprises, no complicated math. Let us know and we’ll set it up.
Delivery & pickup
Do you deliver and pick up?
Yes — that’s the whole point. We bring the crates to your door before you pack and come back to collect them once you’ve unpacked. You never haul crates anywhere.
Is delivery included?
On Fox, Vixen, and Den, delivery and pickup are completely included. On the smaller Kit and Trot packages, it’s a flat $20 each way — or free if you’d rather drop off and pick up the crates yourself.
Do I need to be home for delivery and pickup?
It helps, but it’s flexible. Tell us your preferred window and any access details (gate codes, parking, stairs) and we’ll work around your schedule.
How far in advance should I book?
The sooner the better, especially in busy summer moving months. A few days’ notice is usually plenty, but reach out anytime — if you’re in a pinch, ask about rush delivery.
The crates
How big are the crates and how much do they hold?
Each crate is a heavy-duty 27-gallon (108-quart) stackable tote with a snap-shut lid — about the size of a large moving box, and roomy enough to clear a closet shelf, a cabinet, or a couple of drawers at a time. Because every tote is the exact same size and shape, they stack securely and load into a truck far faster than mismatched cardboard. As a rule of thumb, one rental keeps about 50 cardboard boxes out of the landfill.
Are the crates clean?
Yes. Crates are wiped down and inspected before every delivery so they arrive fresh and ready to pack. Want extra peace of mind? A sanitizing add-on is available.
Will my belongings be safe inside?
Very. The hard walls are crush-proof and the snap-shut lids keep dust and spills out. Stack them 4–5 high with confidence — they’re built to protect what’s inside.

Do you serve my area?
We cover Charleston, SC and about 30 miles out — including Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Summerville, Daniel Island, James Island, Johns Island, Folly Beach, West Ashley and more. If you’re in the greater Charleston area, the fox can almost certainly reach you.
Do you handle office and business moves?
Yes. We offer higher-volume packages for offices and businesses, with one delivery and one pickup so your team stays focused on work — not cardboard. And since it’s a business expense, your move is typically tax-deductible. Reach out for a commercial quote.
What if my plans change?
Life happens. Just give us a heads-up as early as you can and we’ll do our best to adjust your dates or package.
