Moving Services in Charleston, SC

Boxtrot runs a local moving crew in Charleston, SC. We load, haul and unload, and because we also rent moving totes, the packing side of your move can come from the same team.

Moving help is offered in the Lowcountry only right now, Charleston and about 30 miles out. Inside that area we handle a move across the street or across the county.

What our moving service includes

There are two ways to book us. You can hand us the whole move, or you can hire the crew for the heavy part and handle the rest yourself. Either way you get a flat quote before anything gets lifted.

  • Full service moves: we load, drive and unload, and packing help is available if you want it
  • Loading and unloading: you bring the truck, trailer or moving container, we bring the labor
  • Apartment and house moves anywhere in the Charleston area
  • Small moves: a studio, a single room, or just the heavy pieces
  • Business and office moves
  • Last-minute help when a closing or a lease date moves up

Loading and unloading help

This is the most flexible way to use us. If you rented a truck, booked a moving container, or have a trailer in the driveway, our crew does the lifting and you keep control of the vehicle and the route. We stack the load tight so it does not shift on the road, or we empty it at the new place so you can return the truck on time.

Tell us the size of the truck, how many flights of stairs are involved at each end, and whether there is an elevator. Those three details decide how many people we send.

Full service moves

On a full service move the crew shows up with dollies and hand trucks, loads your home, drives it to the new address and unloads it where you want it. Stairs, elevators and tight streets are planned for ahead of time, so tell us about them when you ask for a quote.

We stay local. A move from West Ashley to Mount Pleasant, from an apartment downtown to a house in Summerville, or from one side of James Island to the other is exactly what this service is for. We do not run out-of-state moves right now.

Pairing movers with tote rentals

Most people call a mover and then go hunting for boxes. With Boxtrot you can skip the second part. We drop stackable moving totes at your door before moving day, you pack at your own pace, the crew moves them along with your furniture, and we come back for the empties once you are unpacked.

Totes are uniform, so they stack square on a dolly and in the truck. That makes loading faster than a pile of mismatched boxes. There is no tape to buy and nothing to break down or haul off afterward. Tote packages start at $99 a week with delivery and pickup included, and every size is listed on our pricing page.

You do not have to rent totes to book the crew, and you do not have to book the crew to rent totes.

How pricing works

Moving help is quoted, not listed. Every move is different, so we give you a flat number before we start instead of a price sheet that does not fit your house.

Four things drive the quote: how much there is to move, how many stairs or elevators are involved, the distance between the two addresses, and how many people the job needs. There is no full-day minimum, so a small move is priced like a small move.

The fastest way to get a number is to send your move date, both addresses and a rough list of the big items through the contact form, or call or text (843) 518-0021.

Moving questions, answered

Do you do full service moves or just labor?

Both. On a full service move our crew loads, drives and unloads. On a labor only job you supply the truck, trailer or container and we load it or unload it.

How much does it cost to hire movers in Charleston?

It depends on the move, so we quote each one. The quote is flat and you get it before we start. It is based on how much you are moving, stairs and elevators, the distance between addresses and the size of the crew. There is no full-day minimum.

What areas do your movers cover?

Do I have to rent totes to book movers?

No. Totes are optional. If you want them, we deliver them before moving day and pick up the empties after you unpack.

How far ahead do I need to book?

As early as you can, but ask even if it is short notice. Send us your date and the size of the move and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
